New User Guides to Support Innovative Contracting

User Guide for Innovative Contracts

In conjunction with the publication of the 2016 Design Build Manual, the Engineering Applications team is excited to announce the deployment of several innovative user guides that provide an additional level of support and guidance when using any engineering applications software (e.g., AASHTOWare Preconsturction, Bids, Aconex, and SiteManager).

These four (4) new guides provide detailed information about how to navigate through the various software to achieve an enhanced level of project management and documentation.

Innovative Contracting Users’ Guide –This document was developed to provide users with a hands-on guide to the processes unique to Construction Management General Contractor (CMGC), Design Build, and Public Private Partnerships of Innovative Contracting type projects. The User Guide contains step-by-step tutorials with illustrations on how to use AASHTOWare Preconstruction and SiteManager to support the Innovative Contracting Program’s project delivery methods.

Combo Project User Guide – This step-by-step guide for Combo projects within AASHTOWare Preconstruction illustrates how several projects may now be combined under one Contract/Proposal. This approach enables contractors to combine multiple projects under one contract - with one prime project and one proposal. It provides for more efficient management both in our software system and in the field.

Alternate Project User Guide – This comprehensive guide outlines the processes for contractors to bid on one as well as an alternate design of a single project within AASHTOWare Preconstruction. This procurement method is used when two (2) or more designs are presented for the same project in the bid documents. Advantages include:

  • The ability to innovate
  • Increased bidding competition
  • Potential bid savings

Multiple Project Users Guide – This guide illustrates in detail the multiple bid schedule process within AASHTOWare Preconstruction. The Multiple Bid Schedule process enables users to achieve the following:

  • Competitively bid all elements of work identified within the full scope of a project’s intent -at the maximum established budget
  • Accomplish the maximum amount of work for the minimum amount of cost
  • Reduce the number of project extensions
