CDOT Employee Assists With Burning Vehicle

Greg Hawkins, an employee with Colorado Correctional Industries, e-mailed CDOT to report that on July 10, there was an accident at the intersection of SH 94 and SH 71 at Punkin Center, about 60 miles straight east of Colorado Springs and 30 miles south of Limon.

"A small car hit a truck and caught on fire," Hawkins said.  "After exhausting two small fire extinguishers, the car was still burning.  A fellow state employee from the CDOT maintenance shop at Punkin Center quickly grabbed two large fire extinguishers from the shop and we were able to stop the fire before it consumed the car."

Hawkins added that the car would have been a total loss if not for the actions of Jared Lindt (TM-I, patrol 11 at Punkin Center, Aurora Maintenance Section 5, Region 1).  "After the fire was out, Jared set up signs and did traffic control.  He made me proud to be a fellow state employee and I would like him to know this," Hawkins added.
