CDOT Fire-Assist Efforts Appreciated

The Lower North Fork Wildfire in Jefferson County dominated news for a week or more after it began during high winds in the afternoon of March 26 about eight miles south/southeast of Aspen Park and Conifer.  CDOT was asked to provide a portable variable message board (VMS) to assist the public information effort.

On April 10, Bruce Holloman, Deputy Director of the Division of Emergency Management for the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, called the CDOT Intelligent Transportation System (ITO) Office to express his "thanks for our efforts in providing the portable message board for use.  He appreciated our fast response in getting the sign up there, putting up the necessary messages, and moving locations as required," reported Rod Redman, ITS Maintenance, who took the call.

The wildfire charred more than 4,000 acres, destroyed more than two dozen homes and buildings, and claimed three lives.
