Completed Phases

New SH 128 Bridge

In September 2010, the Colorado Department of Transportation and the City and County of Broomfield completed the first two phases of the 120th Avenue Connection project (view construction phasing map)

The $51 million project (includes design, right of way and construction) constructed a new six-lane portion of State Highway (SH) 128 and a bridge over US 36 that connects with Old Wadsworth Boulevard where access to 120th Avenue is available. Once the final phase is complete, the new portion of SH 128 will be extended to connect directly to 120th Avenue.

Prior to this project, motorists in the Broomfield area could only cross US 36 at Wadsworth Parkway.  Now that the SH 128 bridge over US 36 is complete, motorists can access 120th Avenue by taking the new portion of SH 128 to Old Wadsworth Boulevard.  Once on Wadsworth Boulevard, travel west on 118th Avenue and then north on Commerce Street where access to 120th Avenue is available.  The route provides for the safe travel of motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Edward Kramer and Sons, Inc. was the contractor for the first two phases of the project and HNTB was the design firm.  The project started in September 2009 and was completed on time and within budget.

This project was funded with approximately $39 million in federal funds, $1 million in state funds and $11 million City and County of Broomfield funds.
