US 85 safety improvements and resurfacing work near Platteville are complete
The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor partner, Asphalt Specialties, have completed a resurfacing and safety improvement project on U.S. Highway 85 near Platteville. Around 25,000 vehicles a day use this section of US 85 and now benefit from a smoother driving surface.
Over three miles of northbound and southbound US 85 between CO 66 and CO 60 (Mile Points 250.5 – 254.0) received a new asphalt surface. New signs and delineators line the corridor. Shoulder rumble strips and new pavement markings improve safety.
Intersection safety improvements were also part of the project. The northbound US 85 left-turn lane at CO 60 was extended to provide more storage and prevent blocking a through travel lane with turning traffic. A center median was added at Marion Avenue to limit access to right-in, right-out only at US 85. Northbound US 85 drivers are still able to make a left turn onto Marion Avenue.
