CO 52 five-week closure between Evergreen Street and WCR 51 begins May 6
A five-week full closure is planned on Colorado Highway 52 between Evergreen Street in the Town of Hudson and Weld County Road 51 from May 6 to June 7 for major construction activities. A full highway closure will speed up the asphalt pavement resurfacing schedule while providing a safe work zone for travelers and workers. Access to adjacent properties within the closure area will be provided.
This section of CO 52 is roughly 22 feet wide making it difficult to maintain two-way traffic in one lane while heavy construction equipment operates in the other lane. The signed detour route will direct drivers to travel north around the work zone by using Hudson Drive, Interstate 76 Frontage Road and WCR 51. The detour adds about four miles for through-traffic on CO 52.
WCR 51 at CO 52 is expected to stay open to traffic during the project. A second full closure on CO 52 is expected later this summer between WCR 51 and WCR 59. More information will follow.
An oversize vehicle width restriction of 10 feet is in place on CO 52. The signed oversize vehicle detour route will use CO 52 south of the Town of Wiggins and CO 79 to connect I-76 to I-70.
Construction schedules are weather-dependent and may change.

CO 52 will close between Evergreen Street and WCR 51. Local access will be provided. All others will need to detour using Hudson Drive/I-76 Frontage Road and WCR 51.

About the Project
The Colorado Department of Transportation and Holcim-WCR Inc. will make improvements to over six miles of CO 52 between Evergreen Street in Hudson and WCR 59 this spring and summer. This project will improve the entire road surface with a new asphalt layer. Minor shoulder widening will occur in some areas. This project will also upgrade guardrail, install rumble strips and place new roadside signs and delineators. Benefits of the project include providing a smoother driving surface and increasing the longevity of the highway. Construction completion is anticipated in early fall 2024.

Traffic Impacts
- Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zone, drive with caution, allow extra space between vehicles, and give themselves extra travel time.
- Intermittent lane closures, traffic shifts and alternating traffic are expected.
- Flaggers may be present, be prepared to stop.
- Traffic will be held at intersections and driveways while equipment passes through to ensure product quality and safe operations.
- Temporary driving surfaces may be present.
- Drivers should expect trucks entering and exiting the work zone.
- Work zone speed limit reductions will be in effect.
