Project Facts

  • Cost: $3.4 million
  • Contractor: Oldcastle SW Group, Inc.
  • Location: On I-70 westbound within the DeBeque Canyon, between mile points 48.630 and 49.019
  • Timeline: February to September 2018

Work on this project includes:

  • extending the eastbound off-ramp by excavating rock and installing a wall to stabilize the rock face along I-70.
  • installing traffic lighting.
  • seeding.
  • upgrading signage and striping.


  • Hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Estimated completion: September 2018

Traffic Impacts

  • Westbound travelers:
    • Expect a 14-foot vehicle width restriction at the exit 49 on-ramp at all times. All other vehicles must yield before merging onto I-70 from the on-ramp.
    • The right lane will be closed, and vehicles wider than 14 feet are restricted at all times for the remainder of the project.
    • The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph.
  • Eastbound travelers:
    • At exit 49, expect a right-lane closure, a 14-foot vehicle width restriction and a shoulder closure at all times.
    • You will maintain access to the exit 49 off-ramp.
