US 36 Bridge Replacement East of Last Chance

The Bridges

Crews on this project will remove and replace two bridges on US Highway 36 in Washington County between mile points 139 and 142. The work zone begins approximately four miles east of Colorado Highway 71 (Last Chance). In September and October, crews built temporary detour roads immediately adjacent to each bridge.

Both bridges are structurally deficient and must be replaced.

In January, concrete girders were erected. Crews placing the concrete deck in February. Current work includes constructing the bridge approaches, pouring concrete curbs and deck finishing work.

Work is scheduled to be completed in early summer 2018.

Traffic Impacts

  • Traffic is now using a detour road around each bridge site while the new structures are being built.
  • The speed limit is reduced to 50 mph while the detour roads are in use.
  • Lower speed limits may be posted for flagger control.
  • A width restriction of 14 feet is in place through May 2018.
