Weekly Traffic Impacts - April 28 to May 4

Please be advised of the following traffic impacts, restrictions and planned work for next week for the US 50 & CO 115 Roundabout project in Penrose, Fremont County.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Sunday, April 28 to Saturday, May 4 - CO 115 - 24/7 single-lane configuration, with alternating directions of traffic managed by temporary traffic signals.
  • CO 115 is in a new 24/7 single-lane configuration until further notice
  • The southbound lane of CO 115 is closed, with alternating directions of traffic being routed into the open northbound lane via temporary traffic signals
  • The temporary signals are located at each end of the proposed roundabout area, including a new one at the westbound US 50 off ramp to CO 115 to prevent vehicles from blocking the intersection on the north side of the bridge
  • Motorists can expect delays during these alternating traffic holds
  • Delay times will vary depending on time of day or night
  • Extreme caution is advised when proceeding on green through the signalized area as visibility is limited
  • No left turns on red are permitted
  • Lanes are narrowed and speeds are reduced
  • Construction devices and barrier are in place to maintain safety
  • Flaggers, signs, and message boards exist to alert the public to closures and restrictions within the work zone
  • The project limits on CO 115 extend from MP 12.76 to MP 14.01
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change
Work includes roadway grading, backfilling and placing base course, forming curb and gutter, and constructing the center median and truck apron.

  • Caution is advised as the new off-ramp is shorter and requires a sharp 90 degree turn
  • No lane closures are expected on mainline eastbound US 50
  • Working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • The project limits on US 50 extend from Mile Point 289.50 to MP 289.84

Work Zone Safety Alert

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Pyramid Construction, Inc. appreciate your cooperation during construction as we work to improve the corridor. Please help maintain safety within the work zone by following these important safety tips:

  • CO 115 is reduced to a single lane configuration within the work zone
  • The southbound lane is closed, with alternating directions of traffic being shifted into the open northbound lane, managed by temporary traffic signals
  • A new temporary traffic signal has been added to the westbound US 50 off ramp to further manage traffic flow by preventing vehicles from blocking the intersection on the north side of the bridge
  • Delays can be expected
  • Delay times will vary depending on time of day or night
  • Extreme caution is advised when proceeding on green through the signalized area as visibility is limited
  • This single lane configuration is in place 24/7 until further notice
  • Lanes are narrowed and speeds are reduced
  • No left turns on red are permitted
  • The eastbound US 50 off ramp at CO 115 is also in a new configuration, with traffic being routed onto temporary detour pavement
  • Caution is advised as the new ramp configuration is shorter and has a 90 degree turn
  • This temporary ramp configuration is in place 24/7 until further notice
  • Traffic control activity is present within the work zone during working hours
  • Signs, construction devices and barrier exist 24/7 to maintain safety for the traveling public, the construction crews, and the surrounding community
  • Please follow signs and traffic directions
  • Changing traffic conditions exist
  • Obey the posted speed limits
  • Watch for construction crews
  • Drive with caution
  • Expect the unexpected

General Impacts, Schedule & Scope of Work

  • The project began on March 4 and has an anticipated completion date of late October
  • CO 115 is in a single lane configuration within the work zone, with alternating directions of traffic managed by temporary traffic signals
  • The single lane configuration consists of a 24/7 closure of the southbound lane with alternating directions of traffic routed into the open northbound lane
  • Motorists can expect delays during alternating traffic holds
  • Delay times will vary depending on time of day or night
  • The temporary signals have been installed at each end of the roundabout area to manage alternating directions of traffic into the open lane
  • A new temporary traffic signal has been added to the westbound US 50 off ramp to further manage traffic flow by preventing vehicles from blocking the intersection on the north side of the bridge
  • Extreme caution is advised when proceeding on green through the signalized area as visibility is limited
  • No left turns on red are permitted
  • No lane closures are expected on eastbound US 50
  • The eastbound US 50 off ramp to CO 115 is in a 24/7 temporary configuration onto detour pavement
  • The new off ramp detour configuration is in place 24/7 during construction of the roundabout
  • The project limits on US 50 extend from MP 289.50 to MP 289.84
  • The project limits on CO 115 extend from MP 12.76 to MP 14.01
  • Working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Working hours will be extended during the summer months
  • This state funded project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow by adding a roundabout
  • The roundabout will be on the south side of CO 115 and intersect with the on and off ramps of eastbound US 50
  • No changes will be made to the westbound US 50 on and off ramps
  • Other work includes adding a concrete island and truck apron, and installing curb and gutter, lighting, and traffic signs
  • Roundabouts are proven to be a safer and more efficient method of traffic operations at certain intersections
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change
