Welcome to the Driver’s Seat Teen PSA Contest!
It’s time to get your creative juices flowing for a chance to win great prizes and save lives at the same time! High school students across Colorado are invited to take part in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest, sponsored by Colorado’s Teen Motor Vehicle Leadership Alliance, a group of government agencies , law enforcement agencies, private organizations, businesses and individuals working together to improve safety for teen drivers. But we need your help!
As a teen, you know what it takes to get your peers’ attention and convince them to take action that could save their lives or others. That’s why we need your unique perspective and ideas for public service announcements aimed at fellow teens to educate them about the dangers of distracted driving, particularly the use of cell phones while driving.
Earlier this year, the Colorado General Assembly passed a law that bans the use of cell phones for talking or text messaging by teen drivers under age 18. The law also forbids drivers age 18 and over from text messaging while driving. This law takes effect December 1st, but many people aren’t aware of it… so that’s where you come in!
We’re looking for the best student-created PSAs (video, audio and/or print) to help us inform teens about the new cell phone ban and the dangers of distracted driving. The first 20 students who submit a PSA entry will receive a gift card just for entering! There will also be one winner chosen from each of the three categories. The winning video, audio and print PSAs will be given to the media to start airing/running on Dec. 1st, the day the law goes into effect. We will also hold a news conference on Dec. 1st to announce each of the winners. In addition to your 15 minutes of fame, there are also great prizes!
