Helping parents learn about the four stages of car seat safety, with assistance from the Colorado State Patrol and Univision

CDOT recently produced a series of short Spanish-language videos featuring certified child passenger safety technician Sgt. Ivan Alvarado of the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local Univision social media influencer Deicy Quinones. The five videos are designed to guide viewers through the key stages of child passenger safety, delivering clear, practical guidance for parents and caregivers alike.

The videos highlight the importance of rear-facing and forward-facing car seats, including proper installation and safety benefits, as well as the next stage of protection — booster seats and seat belt use for older children.

• Rear-Facing Car Seats: Highlighting the importance of correct rear-facing positioning for infants and toddlers.
• Forward-Facing Car Seats: Establishing when and how to transition, with a focus on correct usage and harnessing techniques.
• Booster Seats: Covering the next stage of protection, including proper fit and positioning to ensure maximum safety.
• Seat Belts: Demonstrating correct seat belt usage for older children and reinforcing best practices.
• Back Seat Safety Reminder: CDOT and CSP strongly recommend that children stay in the back seat of the vehicle until they are at least 13 years old. Front-seat airbags are designed for adults and can cause serious or fatal injuries to a child's developing skeletal system when they deploy.
