There are approximately 1,250 certified Child Passenger Safety technicians and instructors throughout Colorado. Car Seats Colorado, a joint effort between CDOT and CSP, oversees the work of the technicians and encourages anyone passionate about car seat safety to become a certified Child Passenger Safety technician. Car Seats Colorado is offering scholarships for its certification training program – which is normally $95 – so interested participants don’t have to worry about the burden of covering these costs.

Car crashes are a leading cause of death among children under age 13 nationwide. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), three out of four children are not properly restrained when riding in vehicles. Car Seats Colorado is hoping to engage more individuals and create new resources to keep children safe across the state – from schools to daycares and parents who are active in their communities. The opportunity is available to anyone who is motivated and passionate about car seat safety.

Certification courses are offered 12 times per year at various locations throughout the state and involve three days of training. Certification is good for two years and can be easily maintained. The next upcoming certification course is May 7-9 in Golden, CO. To learn more or register for a certification course, visit CarSeatsColorado.com.
