DUI enforcement periods tackle springtime impaired driving
Colorado State Patrol and statewide law enforcement agencies cited 1,708 impaired drivers during CDOT's five-week Spring Events DUI enforcement period, a decrease from the 1,932 citations given during the same enforcement period last year. The enforcement period leveraged partnerships with law enforcement across the state to conduct increased patrols and DUI checkpoints from April 5 to May 13.

One hundred six agencies participated in the enforcement period, with Colorado Springs Police Department (174 arrests), Denver Police Department (170 arrests) and Aurora Police Department (91 arrests) recording the highest arrest totals. CSP troops made 210 arrests statewide.
The heat was back on shortly after the Spring Events enforcement period with the Memorial Day Enforcement. One hundred five agencies participated in the enforcement, which lasted for five days between May 24 and May 28. Three hundred twenty-three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, an increase from the 301 arrests made during the holiday period last year. Among the agencies, the Colorado Springs Police Department (32 arrests), Denver Police Department (30 arrests) and El Paso County Sheriff's Office (23 arrests) recorded the highest arrest totals.
