CDOT Partners with Centro San Juan Diego

Bringing Traffic Safety Knowledge to the Hispanic Community
Traffic crashes are a major safety problem in Colorado. In 2018, 628 traffic-related fatalities were reported, meaning roughly 12 people per week died on our state’s roads.
On April 30, CDOT partnered with the Denver-based community organization Centro San Juan Diego to host a town hall event featuring Cpl. Ivan Alvarado of the Colorado State Patrol to bring up-to-date traffic safety information to Spanish-speaking residents in the Denver metro area.
Cpl. Alvarado addressed a variety of important topics, including:
- Impaired driving;
- Seatbelt and child passenger safety seat use;
- Distracted driving;
- Winter driving;
- Speeding; and
- Pedestrian and bicycle safety.
In addition, popular local radio host and news anchor Yesha Quezada from KBNO was on hand to live-stream Cpl. Alvarado’s traffic safety tips to station listeners.
