The Heat Is On Memorial Day Preview and Spring Events Recap

Colorado State Patrol and statewide law enforcement agencies handed out 1718 citations to impaired drivers during CDOT’s five-week Spring Events DUI enforcement period. With flowers in full bloom, outdoor activities enjoyed in the spring like baseball and barbeques often lead to increased consumption of alcohol, and unfortunately, irresponsible choices when it comes to impaired driving. 106 agencies participated in the enforcement period that extended from April 5 to May 13. 1718 drivers were cited for impairment during the enforcement, a decrease from the 1932 arrests during last year’s Spring Events enforcement.
The Heat Is On campaign will return with the Memorial Day enforcement period at the end of May. Between May 24 and May 28, there will be increased law enforcement presence on the road making sure that drivers are safe and unimpaired. CDOT encourages drivers to plan for a sober ride home if they are participating in the holiday’s festivities.
