Fall DUI enforcement period roundup

Traffic Safety Pulse News

It's been a busy fall for The Heat Is On as CDOT, CSP and local law enforcement agencies statewide have been working hard to protect Colorado’s roads from impaired drivers. During last month's six-week-long Fall Festivals enforcement period, 1526 impaired drivers were cited with a DUI during the six-week Fall Festivals DUI enforcement period. The Denver Police Department (163 arrests), Colorado Springs Department (139 arrests) and Arvada Police Department (56 arrests) making the most arrests. This is a 19% decrease from the 1,877 arrests during the same enforcement period last year.

For the five-day Halloween enforcement period, CDOT, CSP, and local law enforcement took 228 drivers off the road - making the roads less scary for the season's celebrations.

The next major enforcement period will begin Nov. 22 for a 10-day Thanksgiving holiday DUI enforcement. Last year, 593 drivers were arrested for DUI during that enforcement campaign.

CDOT’s fall enforcement periods and DUI-prevention campaign support CDOT’s Whole System — Whole Safety initiative to reduce traffic injuries and deaths. Last year, there were 209 passenger vehicle fatalities on Colorado roads involving impaired drivers, accounting for more than one-third of all traffic fatalities. A complete list of arrests is at heatisoncolorado.com under the Heat Is On arrest tab.
