A study from researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Centre determined that slower “working memory,” which develops into your twenties, was the reason young drivers are involved in crashes more often.

The scientist determined that drivers who began driving at 17 crashed more often than drivers who began driving around 20, suggesting that experience isn’t the main factor.

What it all means is still to be determined. Including if the driving age should be increased, if there should be testing for slow development of working memory, or if driver-assisted technology is the right path to helping young drivers.
