CDOT and Scooter’s Coffee in Greeley partner to boost seat belt use

Traffic Safety Pulse News

Wear your seat belt, get $1 off a cup of coffee. Greeley-owned Scooter’s Coffee has teamed up with CDOT to encourage community members to buckle up with a weeklong event called Click It for Coffee. Drive-thru customers wearing their seat belts will receive discounted coffee. CDOT and Scooters hope the incentive helps to improve seat belt safety in Weld County — a county with a historically high number of unbuckled fatalities and low seat belt use rates.

With more than 40 years of combined experience as a paramedic and firefighter, Scooter’s Coffee franchise owners, Todd and Michelle Heasty, have seen firsthand the outcome of not wearing a seat belt. Weld County has a seat belt use rate of 81%, below Colorado’s state average of 88%, and well below the national average of 90%. Research shows that wearing a seat belt is the best way to protect yourself in the event of a crash. This partnership brings together two organizations that see seat belt safety as a top priority in rural communities and hope to bring awareness to the importance of buckling up.
