The Heat Is Always On: DUI enforcement ramps up as warmer weather approaches

Traffic Safety Pulse News

Spring has sprung, and DUI enforcement is underway. As DUI arrests and fatalities begin to climb heading into summer, CDOT is making sure Coloradans know that the heat is always on. The Spring Events enforcement period began April 10 and will continue through April 24, with 74 participating law enforcement agencies helping remove impaired drivers from the roads.

CDOT recently completed its partnership with Lyft and Responsibility.org that supplied Coloradans with safe and sober rides home during the holiday season and other heavy-drinking occasions. Nearly $10,000 in Lyft rideshare credits were redeemed statewide, with over 1,000 rides taken from December to March during the winter holidays, Super Bowl and St. Patrick’s Day. This promotion was funded by a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Association (GHSA).

Last month, the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend enforcement period resulted in 253 arrests across 79 participating agencies. The next enforcement period following Spring Events is Memorial Day Weekend from May 16 to June 5.
