Dr. T. Peter Ruane

Dr. T. Peter Ruane is the president and CEO of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). The Washington, D.C.-based ARTBA is America's largest and most respected national transportation construction trade group.

The association is an aggressive and non-partisan advocate that exclusively and successfully works to build and protect the U.S. transportation construction market. It is the pre-eminent information source on transportation investment, policy, safety, economics and other key industry business issues.

Prior to joining ARTBA in October 1988, he served for nine years as president/CEO of the National Moving and Storage Association (NMSA). He served as the deputy director of the Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA), Office of the Secretary of Defense and the President's Economic Adjustment Committee.

Ruane is a past chairman and current director of the Small Business Legislative Council (SBLC). He has held numerous volunteer and elective positions including six years as a director of the school board at St. Mary's of Annapolis, four of which he served as president.

From 2004-2009, he served as the first lay chairman of the board of trustees of Calvert Hall College High School (Baltimore) and was a board member of the school since 1999. In October 2009, he became chair of the Loyola College Board of Advisors within Loyola University Maryland.

He currently serves as treasurer of the International Road Federation. He's a trustee of the Transportation Development Foundation and is the Vice Chairman of the U.S. Chamber-led Americans for Transportation Mobility (ATM). He also co-chairs the Transportation Construction Coalition, and is a frequent witness before Congress and guest on national news programs.

Ruane is a graduate of Loyola College of Baltimore, and holds a master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a doctorate from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He also holds the professional designation certified association executive (CAE).
