Weekly Traffic Impacts & Work Update


Traffic Impacts - July 30 to Aug. 5


Please be advised of the following lane and highway closures and other restrictions for next week for the US 24 Curve Correction project east of Florissant. All schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.

Travel Alert - Full Daytime Closures US 24 - Aug. 3, 7, 8 & 9
  • Both directions of US 24 from Florissant to west of Divide will be fully closed during extended daytime hours for four weekdays in early August
  • The closures will be in place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, Monday, Aug. 7, Tuesday, Aug. 8 and Wednesday, Aug. 9
  • On Friday, Aug. 4, single lane closures will be taken from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with delays expected
  • During the full closures, both directions of traffic on US 24 will be stopped by uniformed traffic control personnel and flaggers and directed to suggested detour routes
  • Lengthy delays can be expected and alternate routes are strongly advised
  • Full access to first responders for emergencies and to local residents within the work zone will be maintained during the full closures
  • The closure area extends from Florissant to west of Divide (see map)
  • The project limits are Mile Point 272.6 to MP 272.9 and the approach area is from MP 271 to MP 274
  • The full closures are necessary to allow construction crews to pave the highway and add safety features
  • The suggested local detour routes as shown on the map below will add approximately 10 miles and 7 minutes to travel times
  • Other detour routes do exist (refer to Google Maps, Apple Maps or other map applications)
  • Barricades, temporary stop bars, signs and construction devices will also be present along the detour routes to alert motorists to changing road conditions
  • Speeds will be reduced and caution is advised while driving through the local detour roads
  • A width restriction of 10.5 feet is in place for the remainder of the project
  • All schedules are weather dependent and subject to change

Daily Lane Closures - Monday, July 31 to Wednesday, Aug. 2 & Friday, Aug. 4 - US 24
  • Single lane closures in both directions of US 24 will be in place within the work zone 
  • The closures Monday to Wednesday will be taken as needed between approx. 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • On Friday, Aug. 4, single lane closures will exist from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for paving
  • During lane closures, alternating eastbound/westbound directions of traffic will be shifted into the open lane, managed by uniformed traffic control personnel and/or flaggers
  • Motorists can expect delays up to 15 minutes during alternating traffic holds
  • Signs and construction devices will be present to alert motorists to the closures and presence of work crews
  • A width restriction of 10.5 feet is in place for the remainder of the project
  • Speeds are reduced to 40 mph in the work zone
  • Caution is advised
  • All closures are weather and work dependent and subject to change
Work includes milling and paving.
Crews have completed rock excavation on the north side of US 24 at the site of the curve.

General Travel Advisory

  • The project limits extend from Mile Point 272.6 to MP 272.9
  • During single lane closures of US 24, alternating directions of traffic will be managed by uniformed traffic control personnel and/or flaggers
  • Motorists can expect delays up to 15 minutes during traffic holds
  • CDOT has authorized up to five full daytime closures of US 24 (no more than five occurrences) during construction
  • During these full daytime closures of US 24, all traffic will be detoured to suggested local routes
  • The project began on May 1 and is expected to last for approx. 75 calendar days, not including delays due to weather events
  • All construction schedules are weather and work dependent and subject to change

Bridge Repair Project - US 24 east of Florissant
  • Crews are repairing two structures between MP 271 and 272
  • Saturday lane closures are in place until August for concrete pours
  • Delays can be expected and alternate routes are advised
  • Weekday shoulder closures and lane closures are possible over the course of construction
  • This project has an anticipated completion date of mid to late September
