Colorado Highway 115 Improvements

Nov. 17, 2023 Update

CO 115 concrete paving planned near Old Canon City Road

Concrete paving continues on the west side of Colorado Highway 115 between Glenrock Drive and Rock Creek Canyon Road / Wilderness Road.

On or after Monday, Nov. 20, Old Canon City Road will close for several days for concrete paving. The signed detour will direct drivers to use Rock Creek Canyon Road. This schedule is highly weather-dependent and may change. The work may be rescheduled until after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Unless other arrangements are made, all other driveways and side streets will remain open. Temporary surfaces may be present and used for access. Narrow lanes and tight turns are expected while equipment is present and the concrete cures. An informational sign will be placed near affected CO 115 access points in advance of the work.

The construction schedule is weather-dependent and may change.

New traffic configuration planned at CO 115 and Rock Creek Canyon Road / Wilderness Road

On Saturday, Nov. 18, concrete paving is planned along southbound CO 115 south of Rock Creek Canyon Road / Wilderness Road. Once the concrete cures, southbound CO 115 will be reconfigured near the intersection. Specifically, the southbound CO 115 lane shift will move further south away from the intersection. The new traffic pattern is anticipated to be in place before Thanksgiving.

Paving operations are weather-dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.

Traffic Impacts & Schedule

Drivers should expect temporary driving surfaces and frequent traffic pattern changes through fall. Care will be taken to maintain access to adjacent properties. However, drivers should be aware that construction equipment may infrequently block side-streets and driveways for up to 15 minutes during grading and asphalt paving operations.

Other traffic impacts include:
  • CO 115 is in two lane configuration (one lane in each direction) for the entire project length from two miles south of Barrett Road (MP 27.7) to Rock Creek Canyon Road/Wilderness Road (MP 39)
  • A reduced work zone speed limit of 45 mph is strictly enforced for the entire project work zone (12 miles)
  • An oversize vehicle width restriction of 11 feet is in place

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation is constructing a major improvement project on CO 115 between Colorado Springs and Penrose. This project improves road and bridge safety on CO 115 from MP 27.7 to MP 39 by adding passing lanes, right turn lanes, reconstructing Rock Creek bridge, and performing major rehabilitation or reconstruction of cracked and distressed pavement.
The project limits are between mile points 27.7 and 39 on CO 115 in El Paso County
The project limits are between MP 27.7 and 39 on CO 115 in El Paso County
