Weekly Traffic Impacts - Nov. 26 to Dec. 2


Please be advised of the following travel advisory, lane and ramp closures, restrictions and planned work for next week for the I-25 Walsenburg Bridge Replacement project in Huerfano County.

**No work will be performed from Thursday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend & CO 10/US 160 under I-25 will be open during this four-day period.**

Travel Advisory -  24/7 closure of CO 10/US 160 under I-25 - except over Thanksgiving weekend
  • Colorado Highway 10 at the U.S. Highway 160 junction under I-25 at Exit 50 is closed, with detour routes in place
  • The highway will be open over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend
  • Intermittent short-term reopenings may also exist during the period of construction
  • The closure began on Friday, Nov. 3 and will remain in place until further notice during safety critical removal and construction of the southbound I-25 bridge
  • The closure is necessary to maintain safety for the railroads, the construction crews, the surrounding community, and the traveling public
  • The closure limits extend from Mile Point 0 to MP .25
  • Please refer to the map below for recommended detour routes
Work includes finishing removal of bridge piers and girders, excavating embankments, and drilling caissons for the new bridge structure.
 
Recommended detour routes during full closure of CO 10/US 160 under I-25.
The southbound I-25 bridge at Exit 50 in Walsenburg is being removed and replaced with a new structure that meets current standards.

General Traffic Impacts
 

Sunday, Nov. 26 to Saturday, Dec. 2 - 24/7 single lane alignment - both directions of I-25 
  • Both directions of traffic on I-25 are reduced to a single lane within the project limits
  • The lanes have been shifted to the northbound side of I-25 via median crossover detour pavement
  • The project limits extend from MP 51 to MP 49 on I-25 at the approaches to and at Exit 50 in Huerfano County
  • This single lane alignment will remain in place until further notice
  • A width restriction of 12 feet is in place
  • Speeds are reduced to 55 mph
  • The northbound I-25 on and off ramps are open
  • The southbound I-25 on and off ramps are closed (see detail below)
  • Caution is advised
Work includes removal of the southbound I-25 bridge structure.

Sunday, Nov. 26 to Saturday, Dec. 2 - 24/7 closure - southbound I-25 on and off ramps
  • The southbound I-25 on and off ramps at Exit 50 are closed, with detour routes in place
  • These ramp closures will remain in place 24/7 for about six months while crews remove and replace the southbound I-25 bridge structure
  • Detour signs will be present alerting motorists to alternate routes
Suggested detour routes during the full closure of the southbound I-25 ramps at Exit 50.

Temporary Playground Closure 


Please be advised that the playground located at S. Grant Ave. and Colorado Ave. is closed while crews replace an underground sanitary sewer line. 
  • The playground will remain closed until further notice
  • The closure is in place to maintain public safety during underground utility work
  • Fencing and signs are present alerting the public to the closure

Nearby Project Impacts


I-25 Resurfacing Project North of Walsenburg
  • This project consists of milling and paving I-25 from MP 65 to MP 59 north of Walsenburg
  • Daytime work hours are sun-up to sun-down, Monday through Friday
  • Lane closures will be in place Monday to Friday with delays expected
  • Speeds are reduced to 60 mph through the construction zone
