Weekly Traffic Impacts - March 17 to March 23


Please be advised of the following traffic impacts, restrictions, and planned work for next week for the Phase 3 Southwest Quadrant Improvements at US 6 and Wadsworth Boulevard project in Jefferson County.

Weekday Impacts


Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22 - W. 6th Ave Frontage Road - weekday block to block closures
  • Daily block to block closures will exist along the Frontage Road south of U.S. Highway 6 from west of Meadowlark Drive to the Wadsworth Blvd. off-ramp, with minor detours in place to adjacent side streets
  • These closures include the Frontage Road entrances to the Meadowlark Hills Shopping Center which have been extended to accommodate cancellation of work operations during the week of March 10 due to severe weather conditions 
  • Access to the shopping center is open via Garrison  St.
  • The closures will be taken from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Work will progress from west to east
  • Flaggers will be present to manage traffic flows, as needed
  • Signs, message boards and construction devices will be in place alerting motorists and pedestrians to the closures and detour routes
  • No sidewalk access exists and pedestrians are not permitted within the work zone
  • Local access to residential driveways will be maintained and access to the shopping center will be granted via Garrison St.
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change
Roadway work includes outside widening at Carr, subgrade reconditioning, and adding roadway base course west of Carr. Sound wall work includes drilling caissons, and setting and pouring posts. Other work includes drainage line installation.

24/7 Impacts


Sunday, March 17 to Saturday, March 23 - W. 6th Ave Frontage Road on-ramp to eastbound US 6 at Carr St. - 24/7 closure, with detour in place
  • A 24/7 closure of the Frontage Road on-ramp to eastbound US 6 at Carr St. is in place until November, with detour signage in place
  • The suggested detour is Garrison St. south to 1st Ave., and east to Wadsworth to enter eastbound US 6
  • The closure is necessary to maintain safety during noise wall and auxiliary lane construction
  • Flaggers will be present to manage traffic flows, as needed
  • Signs and message boards are in place to alert the public to detour routes, closures, and restrictions within the work zone
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change

 

Pedestrian Traffic Alert - W. 6th Ave. Frontage Road - 24/7 Restricted Acess
 

Please be advised that no sidewalk access exists and no pedestrian traffic is permitted along the W. 6th Ave. Frontage Road south of US 6 between just west of Meadowlark Drive and the Wadsworth Blvd. interchange as well as on adjacent side streets during weekday block to block closures. The following restrictions are in place:
  • No sidewalk exists and no pedestrian access is permitted on the Frontage Road within the project limits
  • No pedestrian access is permitted on side streets during block to block closures where work is being performed
  • These restrictions are in place to maintain public safety
  • Construction activity is ongoing and extreme caution is advised
  • Pedestrians are being detoured south on Meadowlark Drive or to side streets outside the work zone
  • Changing traffic conditions exist and motorists are also being detoured
  • Caution is advised as motorists navigate unfamiliar routes
  • These restrictions are in place until further notice
  • Signs, message boards and flaggers are present to manage traffic flow

General Impacts, Schedule & Scope of Work

  • The project began in late January and has an anticipated completion date of early 2025
  • Periodic overnight lane and ramp closures will be taken on eastbound  U.S. Highway 6 between Carr Street and the Wadsworth Blvd. interchange during certain work activities
  • Single overnight lane closures on eastbound US 6 will be in place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekdays and 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends, as needed
  • Double overnight lane closures may be taken on eastbound US 6 during certain work activities. These will be in place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekends, as needed
  • A 24/7 closure of the Frontage Road on-ramp to eastbound US 6 at Carr St. is in place until November, with detour signage in place
  • The suggested detour route is Garrison St. south to 1st Ave., then east to Wadsworth Blvd. to enter eastbound US 6
  • Daytime weekday block to block closures along the Frontage Road from west of Meadowlark Drive to the Wadsworth Blvd off-ramp will exist, with minor detours in place to adjacent side streets
  • No pedestrian access is permitted along the Frontage Road and within the work zone on adjacent side streets during block to block closures 
  • Pedestrians are being detoured south on Meadowlark Drive or other side streets to bypass the work zone
  • Working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday
  • Flaggers will be present on the Frontage Road as needed during working hours and local access will be maintained
  • The project consists of adding an auxiliary lane on eastbound US 6 from Carr St. to Wadsworth; adding sound walls along the Frontage Road from west of Meadowlark Drive to the Wadsworth Blvd. off-ramp; realigning a portion of the Frontage Road and on-ramp at Carr; making drainage improvements, and adding a multi-use path on the west side of Wadsworth from 4th to Highland
  • The project limits on US 6 extend from MP 280.36 to MP 280.84
  • The project limits on the Frontage Road extend from just west of Meadowlark Drive to the Wadsworth Blvd off-ramp
  • Work on the auxiliary lane and noise walls will progress west to east
  • The walls will be between 12 and 15 feet in height
  • Guardrails will be built on either side of the walls for protection against errant drivers
  • The project limits on Wadsworth Blvd extend from Highland Drive to 4th Ave or MP 12.21 to MP 12.66
  • Some overnight and weekend work can be expected later in the project
  • This state and federally funded project is the third of a five-phase project to reconstruct the US 6 & Wadsworth Interchange
  • This phase is designed to enhance pedestrian connectivity and mitigate traffic noise
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change
