I-70 over Ward Road Bridge Replacement

Weekly Traffic Impacts - Nov. 5 to Nov. 11

• Both directions of Ward Road under I-70 will be continuously closed for 3.5 days starting on Friday, Nov. 3 while crews remove portions of the aging westbound I-70 bridge and lower them to the ground
• The full extended closure of Ward Road is expected to begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 and last until approx. 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7
• During this extended closure, detour routes will be posted
• The closure is necessary to maintain safety for the surrounding community, the construction crews, and the traveling public
• No impacts to either direction of I-70 at Ward Road (Exit 266) will be in place during the removal process
• Traffic on westbound I-70 at Ward Road has been shifted onto median detour pavement to accommodate the removal of the bridge
• The westbound I-70 on and off ramps at Ward Road will also remain open during the removal process, but no access to the on ramp via W. 44th Ave will be permitted
• The suggested detour route to access westbound I-70 is: W. 44th Ave.to Youngfield St., and west to W. 40th Ave. to Clear Creek Drive to enter westbound I-70 at Exit 264 (Clear Creek Dr/32nd Ave) - as noted in the map below
• The detour will add approximately 2 miles and 5 minutes to travel times
• Other detour routes do exist
• Uniformed traffic control personnel, flaggers and construction barrier and devices will be present to maintain safety at the site during critical removal work
• Signs and variable message boards will be posted along I-70, W. 44th Ave. and Ward Road to alert motorists to the closures
• The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change

• There are no planned overnight lane closures in either direction of I-70 within the project limits
• The project limits are confined to Mile Point 266.5 (Exit 266 Ward Road) to MP 265 (Exit 265 CO 58/Golden)
• A traffic shift is in place on westbound I-70 and caution is advised

• A full closure of both directions of Ward Rd/CO 72 under I-70 will be in place from 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7 (see details under Travel Advisory above)
• Intermittent single lane closures switching to double lane closures will exist Wednesday to Friday (after the bridge removal) in both directions of Ward Road/CO 72 under I-70
• The lane closures will be taken from approx. 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Periodic overnight lane closures may also exist from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• The closure limits are confined to MP 0 (44th Ave) to MP .25 (just east of the I-70 interchange) 
• Sidewalk access is limited and caution is advised
• Signs and construction devices are present to manage traffic 
• All construction schedules are weather and work dependent and subject to change

• Intermittent single lane closures switching to double lane closures may exist in both directions of I-70 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday to Thursday
• Intermittent lane closures will be taken in both directions of 32nd Ave. below I-70 during daytime hours Monday to Friday
• The extended project limits on I-70 are MP 265 Exit 265 (CO 58/Golden) to MP 263 Exit 263 (Colorado Mills Pkwy)
• This project is substantially complete, with periodic closures taken as needed for punchlist items

• Please be advised of ongoing traffic impacts on I-70 at Exit 270 related to the Harlan Street Bridge Replacement & Interchange Improvement project
• Impacts include full periodic closures of the Harlan St. interchange, the on and off ramps to westbound I-70 and other lane and road closures within the project's limits.
• Motorists will be detoured to Wadsworth Blvd to bypass ramp closures
