I-70 over Ward Road Bridge Replacement

Traffic Impacts - Aug. 27 to Sept. 2

• Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 and lasting until 6 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, motorists can expect single lane closures on westbound and eastbound I-70 between Ward Road/CO 72 (Exit 266) and CO 58/Golden (Exit 265)
• A full closure of both directions of Ward Road/CO 72 under I-70 will be in place from approx. 11 p.m. on Aug. 30 until 6 a.m. on Aug. 31
• Single lanes on Ward Road will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m., or as work progresses during the early morning hours
• The westbound I-70 Ward Road on and off ramps will remain open
• A backup date of Wednesday, Sept. 6 will exist in the event of inclement weather 
• The suggested detour route to access westbound I-70 is: W. 44th Ave.to Youngfield St., and west to W. 40th Ave. to Clear Creek Drive to enter westbound I-70 at Exit 264 (Clear Creek Dr/32nd Ave)
• The detour will add approximately 2 miles and 5 minutes to travel times
• Uniformed traffic control personnel, variable message boards, signs and construction devices will be present to alert motorists to the closures
• Motorists can expect delays and alternate routes are advised
• The closures are necessary to protect the traveling public, the construction crews, and the surrounding community

Other Traffic Impacts - Aug. 28 to Sept.1

• Intermittent overnight single lane closures will be taken in both directions of I-70 on Monday and Tuesday for equipment mobilization and access to the site
• Possible overnight lane closures may also exist on Thursday, Aug. 31
• The closures will be taken from approx. 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• The closure limits are confined to Mile Point 266.5 (Exit 266 Ward Road) to MP 265 (Exit 265 CO 58/Golden)
• Scheduled closures are weather and work dependent and subject to change

• A full closure of Ward Rd under I-70 will be taken from 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 to 6 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31 for the bridge deck pour (see Travel Advisory above)
• Single lane closures switching to double lane closures will exist in both directions of Ward Road/CO 72 under I-70 during daytime and overnight hours Monday to Friday
• The weekday closures will be in place from approx. 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and on Sept. 1 until approx. noon
• Night closures will exist from approx. 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. before, during and after the Aug. 30 overnight deck pour
• The closure limits are confined to MP 0 (44th Ave) to MP .25 (just east of the I-70 interchange) 
• Sidewalk access is limited and caution is advised
• Signs and construction devices are present to manage traffic 
• All construction schedules are weather and work dependent and subject to change

Nearby Project Impacts

• Please be advised of an upcoming lane shift on eastbound I-70 within the project limits to restore traffic to its original alignment
• The shift is scheduled to take place during overnight hours on Aug. 30 with a backup date of Aug. 31
• Occasional late evening (9 p.m. to 11 p.m.) or early morning (4 a.m. to 6 a.m.) lane closures may exist on eastbound I-70 Monday to Thursday
• Intermittent lane closures may be taken during daytime and occasionally during overnight hours in both directions of 32nd Ave. below I-70 
• The extended project limits are MP 265 Exit 265 (CO 58/Golden) to MP 263 Exit 263 (Colorado Mills Pkwy). 

• Please be advised of ongoing traffic impacts on I-70 at Exit 270 related to the Harlan Street Bridge Replacement & Interchange Improvement project
• Impacts include full periodic closures of the Harlan St. interchange, the on and off ramps to westbound I-70 and other lane and road closures within the project's limits.
• Motorists will be detoured to Wadsworth Blvd to bypass ramp closures
