Full closure of the westbound I-70 ramps at Ward Road from June 10 to June 14

June 8, 2021 - Central/Eastern Colorado - The closure is necessary so crews can widen the on-ramp and make safety improvements

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation will close the westbound I-70 on- and off-ramps at Ward Road (Exit 266) from  9 p.m., Thursday, June 10 to 5:30 a.m., Monday, June 14.  The closures are necessary to make safety and traffic operations improvements at the I-70 and Ward Road (CO 72) interchange in Jefferson County.

The project includes wider ramps and new pavement, ramp meters and signs. The project will add permanent water quality features, and improve access to the RTD Park n Ride.

Detour Information

  • Detour signage will be in place to direct motorists to alternate routes.
  • Motorists can exit westbound I-70 at Exit 267 (Kipling St) or Exit 265 (CO 58 to Golden) to bypass the closures.
  • To access westbound I-70, motorists will be directed to the Frontage Road north of the ramps to Kipling.
  • Alternatively, motorists can take 44th Avenue, then east to the I-70 interchange.
  • Motorists can expect short delays and an estimated 10 minutes or 4 miles added to drive times.
  • Lane closures and other traffic notices are posted weekly on COtrip.org.

The project began in March and is expected to last until late October.
