US Highway 50 Resurfacing Project from Coaldale to Salida

April 22, 2024 - Southeastern Colorado - Single lane and shoulder closures beginning late April

Chaffee and Fremont Counties — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner A&S Construction, CO, will begin a highway resurfacing project on US Highway 50 from Coaldale to Salida on April 29.

Project work consists of resurfacing US 50 from Coaldale to Salida (Mile Point 222 to MP 241). Once complete, the project will improve drivability and provide safer driving conditions for motorists. The traveling public can expect daytime lane and shoulder closures. The project is scheduled for completion in fall of 2024.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:

  • Work will occur during daytime hours, Monday through Thursday
  • Single lane closures and shoulder closures will take place within the work zone
  • Traffic control and temporary signals will be operating 24/7 from mid-July through mid-September from MP 233 to MP 234
  • Reduced speeds in the work zone
  • Plan ahead and expect delays
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent
  • The project is scheduled for completion in fall of 2024

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
  • Be patient!
