US 50 Resurfacing and ADA Improvements in Las Animas to begin in March

March 11, 2024 - Southeastern Colorado - Motorists should expect delays beginning March 18

Bent County — The Colorado Department of Transportation with its contract partner TLM Constructors will begin work on US Highway 50 in Las Animas on Monday, March 18 from Mile Point 397 to MP 399. Travelers can expect lane and shoulder closures, as well as full road closures in May. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2025.

Work on the project includes surface treatment, Americans with Disabilities Act ramp replacements and drainage improvements. Once complete, the project will improve drivability for motorists and provide safer conditions for pedestrians and individuals using wheelchairs.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:

  • Work will occur during daytime hours, Monday through Friday
  • Single lane closures, double lane closures, and shoulder closures will take place within the work zone
  • Full road closure expected in May
  • Reduced speeds in the work zone
  • Plan ahead and expect short delays
  • Construction schedules are weather dependent
  • The project is scheduled for completion in early 2025

  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
  • Be patient!
