CDOT will temporarily close I-25 at WCR 38 and the I-25 East Frontage Road near Mead for girder installation starting Aug. 11
Travel Advisory
Weld County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will temporarily close the I-25 East Frontage Road between Weld County Roads 34 and 32, Monday, Aug. 11, at 7 a.m. through Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 5 a.m. to allow crews to use this area for staging and bridge girder preparation.
- Northbound Frontage Road traffic will turn east at WCR 32 to Colorado Boulevard, turn north to WCR 34, and travel west to the Frontage Road
- Southbound Frontage Road traffic will turn east at WCR 34 to Colorado Boulevard, turn south to WCR 32, and travel west to the Frontage Road

In addition, I-25, east of Mead, at Weld County Road 38 will be closed overnight Monday, Aug.18, and Tuesday, Aug. 19, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., to allow crews to install new bridge girders over the roadway as bridge reconstruction continues.
- Southbound I-25 traffic will exit at Colorado Highway 402, travel west and turn south on US Highway 287, turn east onto Colorado Highway 66 and re-enter southbound I-25
- Northbound I-25 traffic will be rerouted using temporary detour off- and on-ramps merging with the I-25 E. Frontage Road. No turning movements will be allowed on or off WCR 38 during this time
- I-25 E. Frontage Road south of WCR 38 will be closed. North- and southbound Frontage Road traffic will travel east to Colorado Boulevard to access I-25, WCR 34 and 32, and Weld County Road 36

This work is part of the I-25 North Express Lanes, Mead to Berthoud project, which includes reconstruction and widening of bridges along this section of I-25. Full closures increase safety for the traveling public and crews while decreasing the duration of traffic impacts.
Travel Impacts
Motorists can expect the following impacts:
- Full closure of I-25 E. Frontage Road between WCR 34 and 32, Monday, Aug. 11 at 7 a.m. through Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 5 a.m.
- Full closures of north- and southbound I-25 under WCR 38, Monday, Aug. 18 and Tuesday, Aug. 19, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Traffic shift of southbound I-25 lanes to the west onto new concrete roadway between CO 56 and WCR 38 starting Monday, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m.
More information on the Weld County Road 38 bridge demolition and reconstruction:
- The current Weld County Road 38 bridge was built in 1960, and a larger bridge is needed to span the widened I-25 section. The new bridge will have an 8-foot-wide sidewalk for multimodal connections over I-25. The new bridge will also be built “on alignment,” or in the same position as the current bridge, which was decided in coordination with the Town of Mead. Usually, CDOT replaces a bridge directly adjacent to the old bridge, to allow the old bridge to be used during construction of the new bridge. The demolition of the current bridge and the complete construction and roadway tie in of the new bridge will be completed while the WCR 38 east/west connection over the interstate is closed from June to December 2025.
- CDOT is aware this six-month bridge outage is a significant inconvenience for daily users. Ultimately, this decision will invest money in permanent infrastructure in another area of the project and save Colorado taxpayer money. CDOT will prioritize keeping the Weld County Road 34 and I-25 interchange open during the WCR 38 bridge closure to help facilitate east/west movement across the interstate.
Construction is weather-dependent and subject to change.

The I-25 North Express Lanes Project: Mead to Berthoud section is a continuation of the approximately 20 miles of improvements that have been completed on I-25 between Berthoud to Fort Collins over the past six years. This approximately 6-mile project will expand and enhance I-25, from Colorado Highway 66 in Mead and connect to the newly built portion of I-25 just south of CO 56 in Berthoud. Once complete in 2028, this project will complete a major missing puzzle piece on I-25 and will be the first time there will be more than two lanes of I-25 from Denver to Fort Collins in both directions.
