Paving operations at intersection of CO 21 (Powers Boulevard) and Milton E. Proby Parkway

El Paso County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, United Companies, will perform overnight paving operations at the intersection of CO Highway 21 (Powers Boulevard) and Milton E. Proby Parkway, Sunday, Aug. 24 through Thursday, Aug. 28.
Crews will remove the existing asphalt followed by a new asphalt overlay to improve smoothness and safety for drivers. This work will improve roadway conditions in the intersection and extend the life of the pavement.
Traffic Impacts
Motorists will encounter paving operations at the intersection of CO 21 (Powers Boulevard) and Milton E. Proby Parkway in El Paso County near the Colorado Springs Airport. Traffic impacts will include:
- From 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 24 to Thursday, Aug. 28, north- and southbound CO 21 (Powers Boulevard) will be reduced to a single lane in each direction from mile point 137 (north of Grinnell Boulevard) to 138 (north of Milton E. Proby Parkway).
- From 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 24 to Thursday, Aug. 28, Milton E. Proby Parkway will be closed to east- and westbound traffic between Hancock Expressway and Peak Innovation Loop.
- To access northbound CO 21 (Powers Boulevard): left on Peak Innovation Parkway, right on Integration Loop, right on Grinnell Boulevard, right on Bradley Road, right on Hancock Expressway, right on Chelton Road, right on Hancock Expressway, right on CO 21 (Powers Boulevard).
- To access southbound CO 21 (Powers Boulevard): left on Peak Innovation Parkway, right on Integration Loop, right on Grinnell Boulevard, left on CO 21 (Powers Boulevard).
- To access westbound Milton E. Proby Parkway west of Hancock Expressway: left on Peak Innovation Parkway, right on Integration Loop, right on Grinnell Boulevard, right on Bradley Road, right on Hancock Expressway, left on Milton E. Proby Parkway.
- To access eastbound Milton E. Proby Parkway east of Peak Innovation Parkway: right on Hancock Expressway, left on Bradley Road, left on Grinnell Boulevard, left on Integration Loop, left on Peak Innovation Parkway, right on Milton E. Proby Parkway.
- Speeds will be reduced through the work zone.
- Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zone, drive with caution, allow extra space between vehicles and give themselves extra travel time.

The following tips are to help you stay safe while traveling through maintenance and construction work zones.
- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
