CDOT will fully close I-25 at WCR 34 and WCR 38 at night twice in June; close WCR 38 over I-25 through the end of the year
Travel Advisory
Weld County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will temporarily close I-25, east of Mead, at two different locations along the I-25 North Express Lane Project corridor, in Mead, as bridge reconstruction work progresses. In addition, Weld County Road 38 over I-25 will close through the end of the year.
Northbound and southbound I-25, under Weld County Road 34, will be closed nightly Sunday, June 15, through Tuesday, June 17, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., to allow crews to demolish the current bridge over the highway in preparation to move traffic to the new bridge.
- Northbound and southbound I-25 traffic will be rerouted using the off- and on-ramps at WCR 34 (mile point 245). No turning movements will be allowed on or off WCR 34 during this time.
- Eastbound WCR 34 traffic will turn south on WCR 7, turn east on Colorado Highway 66, and turn north on Colorado Boulevard to WCR 34.
- Westbound WCR 34 traffic will turn south on Colorado Boulevard, turn west on CO 66 and turn north on CR 7 to WCR 34.
- For I-25 access to WCR 34, traffic will be directed to the I-25 and CO 66 interchange and follow other routes to the east or west.

In addition, Weld County Road 38 over I-25, east of Mead, will close Tuesday, June 17, at 7 a.m. through December, to allow crews to reconstruct the bridge over the highway. Work will include demolishing the current, aging bridge, constructing new concrete caissons, setting new bridge girders and deck panels and pouring a new concrete road surface. The new bridge will be built in the same general footprint as the current bridge in coordination with the widening of I-25 below, maintaining the existing road alignment and increasing cost effectiveness.
- Eastbound WCR 38 traffic will take WCR 7 south to WCR 34, turn east to the I-25 E. Frontage Road, and turn north to WCR 38.
- Westbound WCR 38 traffic will take the I-25 East Frontage Road south to WCR 34, turn west to CR 7, and turn north to WCR 38.
Following these closures, northbound and southbound I-25, under WCR 38, will be closed overnight Sunday, June 22, through Tuesday, June 24, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., for crews to demolish the current bridge as reconstruction of the new bridge begins. Southbound I-25 traffic will exit at CO 402, travel west and turn south on US Highway 287, turn east onto CO 66 and re-enter southbound I-25.
Please follow posted detour routes.
- Southbound I-25 traffic will exit at Colorado Highway 402, travel west and turn south on US Highway 287, turn east onto CO 66 and re-enter southbound I-25.
- Northbound I-25 traffic will be rerouted using temporary detour off- and on-ramps merging with the I-25 East Frontage Road. No turning movements will be allowed on or off WCR 38 during this time.
- Southbound East Frontage Road traffic will turn onto WCR 40, travel east to Colorado Boulevard, turn west onto WCR 36, and turn south onto the Frontage Road.

Full closures increase safety for the traveling public and crews while decreasing the duration of traffic impacts. This work is part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project, Mead to Berthoud, which includes reconstructing and widening bridges along this section of I-25. When completed, the new bridge will feature wider shoulders and smoother lanes of travel to improve trip reliability for decades to come. General project working hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional extended hours and weekend work, as needed.
Travel impacts
Motorists can expect the following impacts:
- Nightly full closures of northbound and southbound I-25 under WCR 34, Sunday, June 15, through Tuesday, June 17, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Full closure of eastbound and westbound WCR 38 over I-25, Tuesday, June 17, through December 2025.
- Nightly full closures of northbound and southbound I-25 under WCR 38, Sunday, June 22, through Tuesday, June 24, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Construction is weather-dependent and subject to change.
Please visit codot.gov/projects/north-i-25, for the most current travel updates. The I-25 North Express Lanes Project: Mead to Berthoud section is a continuation of the approximately 20 miles of improvements that have been completed on I-25 between Berthoud to Fort Collins over the past six years. This approximately six-mile project will expand and enhance I-25, from Colorado Highway 66 in Mead and connect to the newly built portion of I-25 just south of CO 56 in Berthoud. Once complete in 2028, this project will complete a major missing puzzle piece on I-25 and will be the first time there will be more than two lanes of I-25 from Denver to Fort Collins in both directions.
