CDOT to host Mountain Passenger Rail open house June 18 in Fraser

News Release

June 13, 2025 - Northwestern Colorado - Project reaches major milestone with completion of Service Development Plan

Grand County – The Colorado Department of Transportation is hosting its 10th Mountain Rail open house — to be held June 18 in Fraser — providing the public with an opportunity to hear exciting project updates and celebrate major milestones in the ongoing effort to re-establish passenger rail service from Denver to Craig.

The open house will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Fraser Valley Elementary School, 125 Eastom Ave. in Fraser, and offers both in-person attendance and a live virtual option. A recording of the event will be available at coloradomountainrail.org, one week after the open house.

The open house follows the recent historic 25-year lease agreement and access agreement between the State of Colorado and the Union Pacific Railroad for the Moffat Tunnel, a critical step ensuring passenger rail access to mountain communities, including Winter Park, Fraser, Granby, Steamboat Springs and Craig.

Project leaders and CDOT representatives will provide an overview of recent developments, anticipated timelines for service commencement and opportunities for public involvement as the project moves forward into its implementation phases.
