Resurfacing work on US 287 around Owl Canyon Road will begin on July 7

June 24, 2025 - Northeastern Colorado - Work is expected to be complete by the end of the month

Larimer County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a resurfacing treatment project on July 7 along US Highway 287 in northeast Colorado. Resurfacing work will take place just northwest of Fort Collins on a one-mile stretch of highway near Owl Canyon Road, Mile Points 362.65 to 363.45. The project is expected to be completed by late July.

The resurfacing of the roadway will include milling, striping, signs and delineators. Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., is the contractor for this project.

The resurfacing mill and fill treatment will prolong the life of the road surface.

“US 287 has been a priority project identified in our 10-year plan. The planning identified this intersection as one of the top safety concern areas. The project’s new striping will produce clearer roadway lines and safety through this stretch of highway. The road will be safer, have better ride quality and ensure a smoother drive for motorists,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Heather Paddock.

Travel Impacts

  • Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Vehicles will be reduced to a single lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction throughout the duration of the project
  • Lane closures may have up to 15-minute delays
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 40 MPH through the work zone
  • The project is expected to last until late July

  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
