CO 59 Resurfacing Project set to begin on June 2

Travel Advisory

May 22, 2025 - Northeastern Colorado - Project will start in Kit Carson, then go north

Cheyenne County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing treatment work on June 2 on Colorado Highway 59. Resurfacing work will start in Kit Carson, and head north, from Mile Point 0.05 to MP 9. The project is expected to be completed by late September.

The work will include asphalt paving, new signage and fresh roadway striping. Pyramid Construction, Inc. is the contractor for this $4.9 million project. Work will primarily consist of milling the existing roadway, followed by adding three inches of hot mix asphalt overlay and striping. Work will be done in both the northbound and southbound lanes for a nine-mile stretch of CO 59 starting just north of US 287.

“The project will replace the existing asphalt with a new driving surface, replace old signage, refresh striping and add shouldering to make it smooth and much safer for the traveling public. This corridor has been and continues to be a high priority for the Eastern Transportation Planning Region and CDOT. Projects will continue to be prioritized on CDOT’s 10 year plan of projects,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Heather Paddock.
