CDOT completes New Castle US 6 roundabout project

Travel Advisory

May 29, 2025 - Northwestern Colorado - Travelers will experience congestion relief with improved traffic flow

Garfield County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and local contractor, Johnson Construction, have completed a highway improvement project at US Highway 6 and Castle Valley Road/Spur Road in New Castle.

The project constructed a new multilane roundabout at the busy intersection of US 6 and Castle Valley Road and a 3/4 turn movement intersection at the Castle Valley Boulevard and New Castle Plaza access. Crews installed rapid flashing beacons through the roundabout for pedestrian and cyclist safety. The work also improves drainage, lighting and utilities.

Additional work on this project included paving of the on- and off-ramps at the New Castle interchange, Exit 105, in September 2024. The ramp paving included milling and paving on three of the four ramps, the eastbound off-ramp and both of the westbound on- and off-ramps. The eastbound on-ramp was paved the previous year.

The project was part of CDOT’s 10-year plan for improvements in Garfield County. The project will improve congestion and drivability for motorists on this busy stretch of US 6.
