US 6 Clifton Improvement Project moves to next phase of roundabout and roadway construction
Travel Advisory
Mesa County - The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor, United Companies, will move into the final phase of highway improvements on US Highway 6 (F Road) in Clifton from west of 1st Street to just east of 5th Street. The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 2.
The project team has resolved project delays due to saturated soils during underground construction for utilities. Redesign efforts were completed, and a revised schedule was developed and is now being implemented. Water and sewer mains are complete, and storm drain improvements are anticipated to be fully installed near the end of the summer.
This next phase of work will complete the second roundabout at 5th Street, add center medians, and an additional eastbound travel lane from 1st Street to 5th Street. Pedestrian and bicycle connections through the corridor will also be improved.
Traffic control will maintain two-way traffic during project construction and business access will remain open. During reconstruction, motorists are encouraged to utilize local streets to access businesses within the project work zone, as left turn movements and some right turn movements will be impacted.
The completed project will improve safety and traffic flow by realigning and updating traffic patterns on US 6. The project has already completed the 1First Street roundabout.
The project is part of CDOT’s 10-year plan improvements for the US 6 corridor in Mesa County.
The project is anticipated to be complete in the spring of 2026.
