US 50 Culvert repairs set to begin on Dec. 8

Project Announcement

Nov. 24, 2025 - Southeastern Colorado - Various culvert repairs to occur in Cañon City

Fremont County — The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a culvert repair project on Dec. 8 along US Highway 50 in Cañon City. Work will take place just east of downtown on a two-mile stretch of highway from 15th Street to Justice Center Road, mile points 279.33 to 281.65. The project is expected to be completed by the end of March. Insituform Technologies, LLC, is the contractor for this $1.45 million project.

The work will include relining and rehabilitating the existing culverts. The culverts are located under US 50 and carry storm and irrigation drainage under the roadway. Culvert improvements and replacements make necessary enhancements to accommodate higher accumulations of rainfall and lower the risks associated with such instances as flooding, thereby maintaining safe driving conditions.

Traffic Impacts

Beginning Dec. 8, motorists will encounter road work on US 50 through Cañon City from 15th Street to Justice Center Road. Traffic impacts will include:

  • Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, throughout the duration of the project
  • Various shoulder closures will take place during the project
  • Lane closures, guided by flaggers, could result in short delays
