Overnight full closure of northbound I-225 at 6th Avenue
Travel Advisory
Aurora — Motorists are urged to plan ahead for a full overnight closure of northbound Interstate 225 at 6th Avenue on Oct. 26 and 27. The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contractor, Structures Inc., are rehabilitating two I-225 bridges over 6th and 2nd avenues. This closure will allow crews to put down asphalt on the bridges’ surface to help even out the pavement. This work is part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate these two bridges. Later in the week there will be overnight double lane closures on north and southbound I-225.
The project team collaborated on several approaches to decrease the full closure from five to two nights.
Traffic Impacts
Overnight Sunday, Oct. 26 and Monday, Oct. 27
- Northbound I-225 closed at 6th Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Detour signage will be posted to guide motorists through the detour route. Motorists should plan for up to a 20-minute delay starting at 9 p.m. when taking the detour
- Local traffic will be directed to exit northbound I-225 toward westbound 6th Avenue, go through the traffic light and back onto northbound I-225
- Commercial vehicles will be routed around this closure via northbound C-470 to eastbound I-70
- Southbound I-225 will remain open
Overnight Monday, Oct. 27 and Tuesday, Oct. 28
- If a full closure on northbound I-225 is not needed Monday night, there will be double lane closures on southbound I-225 at 2nd and 6th avenues. The first lane will close at 7 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m.
