Southwest and South-Central Colorado — Motorists traveling US Highway 160 between Home Depot and Downtown Durango should allow additional travel time on Oct. 21 and 22. Lane shifts and lane closures will be in place to allow for bridge inspections and worker safety at multiple bridges along Camino Del Rio.

Durango Bridge Inspection Schedule:

Tuesday, Oct. 21:

  • US 550, Mile Point 3 (La Plata County): Beginning at 10:30 a.m., crews will perform inspections on Bondad Bridge, approximately three-miles north of the New Mexico state line. Motorists can expect brief delays and one-lane alternating traffic.
  • US 160, MP 102 (La Plata County): Beginning at 1 p.m., crews will perform an inspection of the Los Pinos River Bridge in Bayfield. Motorists can expect brief delays and one-lane alternating traffic.

Wednesday, Oct. 22:

  • US 160 (Durango): Between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., crews will perform bridge inspections at multiple Animas River crossings on Camino Del Rio. Motorists can expect brief delays, speed reductions and lane shifts while traveling between Downtown Durango and Home Depot.

Due to recent significant rainfall, the Colorado Department of Transportation will be evaluating, inspecting and recording the condition of various bridge structures across the region. The inspections will take place on several highways through the end of the month.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
