Plan for up to 30 minute delays on US 160 west of Bayfield, Sept. 9 to 26

La Plata County — Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 9, the Colorado Department of Transportation will perform three-week-long survey work on US Highway 160 between Elmore's Corner (Mile Point 91.8) and Silver Hills Road (MP 97), just west of County Road 223. Motorists traveling between Durango and Bayfield should allow up to 30 minutes of additional travel time from Sept. 9 to 26, Monday through Friday, between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
Crews will attempt to keep traffic alternating through the work zone however, full stops and lane closures will be necessary to safely preform the operations.
Traffic Impacts
Operations will take place from Sept. 9 to 26. Daytime work hours will range from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Plan for slower speeds, full stops and alternating traffic
- Motorists should allow themselves 15 to 30 minutes of extra travel time
- A speed reduction of 40 MPH will be enforced through the work zone
- Motorists are urged to watch for workers and their equipment, slow down and drive with extreme caution

- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
