CDOT warns travelers of extended eastbound closure on I-70 near Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel

April 14, 2026 - Northwestern Colorado - Eastbound I-70 traffic is being rerouted over US 6/Loveland Pass

Clear Creek and Summit County — Eastbound Interstate 70 is currently closed at Exit 205 in Silverthorne, just west of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel. The closure is due to a severe multi-vehicle crash on the east side of Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel that took place this afternoon. There is currently no estimated time for reopening.

Motorists traveling eastbound are being rerouted over Loveland Pass (US 6) to rejoin I-70 eastbound. However, due to the severity of the crash, drivers approaching the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel should expect to be turned around for the next several hours.
Winter driving conditions are currently being reported throughout the I-70 Mountain Corridor.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and prepare for delays. Before heading out, travelers should check current road conditions and real-time updates via COtrip.org or the COtrip Planner app.

  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
