Americans with Disabilities Act improvements completed on Colorado Highway 83

Aug. 6, 2026 - Denver Metro/Central Colorado - Sidewalks and curb ramps upgraded along over five miles of Parker Road

Arapahoe and Denver Counties — The Colorado Department of Transportation and prime contractor, Chatos Concrete LLC, have completed a sidewalk and curb ramp improvement project along Colorado Highway 83 (Parker Road) in Denver and Arapahoe County.

The project, which started in early April, provided upgrades to more than 25 intersection locations between East Florida Avenue and East Quincy Avenue, Mile Point 68.98 to MP 74. Crews removed and replaced concrete sidewalks and curb ramps, revitalizing nearly 100 ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Additional signage replacements, striping work and push button enhancements were also included in the project’s scope.

“As a result of the completed construction, the corridor now offers safer and more accessible travel paths for multimodal users to walk, roll and stroll to their destinations along Parker Road,” said Jessica Myklebust, Region 1 Transportation Director. “This work is part of CDOT’s mission to provide Coloradans with infrastructure that works for everyone, no matter their mode of transportation.”

Better pedestrian infrastructure has been shown to increase foot traffic for local businesses, positively contributing to the economic strength of an area. It also helps to reduce car dependency for short trips, minimizing traffic congestion and environmental impact.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
