I-70 Horizon Drive to Clifton Resurfacing project begins August 23
Project Announcement
Mesa County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and contracting partner, Quikrete Materials, will begin a resurfacing project on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2026, along Interstate 70 from Horizon Drive to Clifton. The project has an anticipated completion date of November 2026.
The project will improve approximately six miles of I-70 from Horizon Drive, Exit 31 at Mile Point 31.4, to Clifton, Exit 37 at MP 37. Roadway work will include milling the old asphalt, paving with new asphalt, rumble strip installation, guardrail replacement and striping.
“I-70 from Horizon Drive to Clifton is a heavily-traveled, vital interstate corridor that supports local travel, freight movement and regional connectivity,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Jason Smith. “The road surface will add approximately 10 years of life to the interstate and provide a better, safer driving experience for motorists.”
Other benefits of the project include installation of new guardrail that will be 31 inches high, designed to meet updated safety standards. The higher railing will help vehicles that veer off course remain on the roadway more effectively, making the interstate safer for the traveling public.
