I-25 Central Denver Resurfacing Project is complete
Travel Advisory
Denver County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Asphalt Specialties have completed a major resurfacing project along Interstate 25 in central Denver. While the project was originally slated for completion in January 2026, crews finalized all punch-list items early, delivering a renewed highway just in time for the peak winter travel season. The project was also recently recognized with a Best in Colorado 2025 Urban Highway Resurfacing Award from the Colorado Asphalt Paving Association.
The project improved approximately 5.5 miles of the state’s busiest corridor, stretching from Alameda Avenue to 44th Avenue. Key improvements delivered by this project include:
- Resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt for a smoother ride
- Repairing bridge expansion joints to protect the structural integrity of the interstate
- Replacing signage and restriping to improve visibility and driver guidance
- Installing new concrete barriers to increase safety along the corridor
“This work was imperative to prolonging the life of I-25, one of our most heavily trafficked roads, while providing a more durable riding surface,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “This project has not only improved safety for the traveling public but also reduced the long-term need for emergency pothole repairs.”
“I-25 is a busy interstate for Denver-Metro travelers,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Jessica Myklebust. “Whether for local commuters, freight, or visitors driving through, this stretch of interstate is essential for connecting the region. The resurfacing will result in a smoother and safer experience for all who travel I-25.”
