Resurfacing project to begin on US 50 west of Pueblo

Project Announcement

March 23, 2026 - Southeastern Colorado - Motorists should plan for daytime and nighttime work starting April 6

Pueblo County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, Martin Marietta, will begin a resurfacing project along US Highway 50 from the Pueblo-Fremont County Line to Purcell Boulevard in Pueblo West. Starting April 6, motorists should plan for daytime and nighttime work along the corridor.

The project will improve approximately 13 miles of US 50 from Mile Point 296.2, Fremont County Line, to MP 309.3, Purcell Boulevard in Pueblo West. Work will include milling old asphalt, paving with new asphalt, bridge repairs and guardrail replacement.

“US 50 is a vital east-west corridor for commuters, freight and residents,” said Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson. “The new asphalt will add approximately 10 years of life to the highway and provide a smoother road surface for motorists.”

Other benefits of the project include installation of new guardrail that will be 31 inches high, designed to meet new safety standard requirements. The higher railing will help veering vehicles remain on the road more effectively, making the highway safer for the traveling public.

The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2026.
