CDOT completes culvert replacement on Highway 318 at Browns Park
Travel Advisory
Moffat County — The Colorado Department of Transportation, along with its contracting partner, Myers & Sons Construction, recently completed the culvert replacement project on Colorado Highway 318 at Mile Point 1.25, just east of the Utah border.
Project work on CO 318 near the Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge in Northwestern Colorado included removing the existing corrugated metal pipe culvert and installing a new concrete box culvert. The old culvert had been on CDOT’s list of critical culvert improvements because it was nearing the end of its useful life and had begun to fail.
“This is a great example of CDOT’s investment into our rural communities and addressing some of the region's most critical infrastructure needs,” said Jason Smith, Regional Transportation Director.
The upgraded culvert can handle greater water volumes than the corrugated metal pipe structure, helping prevent flooding, erosion, and potential structural damage to the roadway. This improvement is a direct result from a CDOT culvert replacement initiative aimed to ensure these vital assets are functioning properly for years to come in order to support essential drainage and keep roadways safer.
