CDOT has finished widening over two miles of Colorado Highway 67

Sept. 23, 2026 - Southeastern Colorado - Work will improve traffic flow and pedestrian accessibility in Woodland Park

Teller County — The Colorado Department of Transportation has completed safety and traffic flow improvements to over two miles of Colorado Highway 67 in the City of Woodland Park. As part of CDOT’s 10-Year Plan, the goal of this state- and federally-funded project was to improve capacity, safety and mobility to support increased tourist traffic and multimodal demands and to improve the drainage system. Work began in Spring 2025.

“Our work on Highway 67 has been part of a sustained effort to improve rural pavement for communities like Woodland Park and others throughout Colorado,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “Of the more than 2,500 miles of rural roads we have improved statewide since 2021, the 10-Year Plan has contributed funding for 756 miles across 41 projects, helping to deliver essential upgrades in areas of greatest need.”

Work consisted of adding a travel lane in each direction of CO 67 from the Evergreen Heights Drive/County Road intersection to north of West Kelley’s Road/Stone Ridge Drive to accommodate traffic. Other work included adding traffic signal heads, pavement markings and crosswalks for enhanced safety and pedestrian accessibility, and replacing aging drainage lines with an advanced underground storm water system.

“This traffic and safety improvement project is critical for highways supporting heavy tourist traffic and visitors to Woodland Park-area recreational facilities,” said CDOT Regional Director Shane Ferguson. “This is an excellent example of how state funding benefits the traveling public.”

This heavily traveled section of CO 67 has now doubled its capacity with an extra lane in each direction and improved traffic flow with a shared turn lane and signals to better support heavy traffic. The new underground drainage system is more efficient in channeling heavy stormwater and snowmelt away from vulnerable areas, preventing freezing hazards on sidewalks and driveways, and reducing erosion.

These 10-Year Plan investments supplement an estimated $230 million expended statewide annually on road resurfacing via CDOT’s foundational funding programs, such as its asset management program. Illustrating the significance of these rural road improvements, CDOT successfully completed a 19-mile segment along US Highway 50 south of Grand Junction, situated approximately between Whitewater and Delta.

  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
