CDOT concludes bridge rehabilitation project early on I-70 southeast of Byers

Sept. 22, 2026 - Denver Metro/Central Colorado - Project improves safety and extends lifespan of four structures

Arapahoe County — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contractor, Structures Inc., have concluded work on the Interstate 70 bridge rehabilitation and deck repair project southeast of Byers between Peoria and Deer Trail from Milepost 323.1 to 325.3. Final seeding and punch list items will occur along the corridor in late September to optimize weather conditions.

The project repaired bridge decks of four structures, including new concrete pavement at the bridge approaches, and girder and column repairs. Work began in September 2025 and was completed ahead of schedule in August 2026.

“Drivers along this stretch of I-70 between Peoria and Deer Trail will experience a safer, smoother ride,” said CDOT Region 1 Transportation Director Jessica Myklebust. “The project, completed ahead of schedule, will lengthen the lifespan of the four structures and help maintain safe driving conditions.”

Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
