Project and Program Spotlight

We’re here for you, Colorado. 24-7, CDOT is committed to your safety and the quality of your travel on more than 23,000 lane miles throughout the state. We know that transportation impacts you on a daily basis, which is why we’re always working to improve the way you move.

Transportation affects everyone. Without a doubt, you’ve experienced a pothole, traffic congestion and snowy roads. You’ve likely been late to a meeting or appointment because of a crash. Transportation is often stressful and frustrating, but it shouldn’t be. Getting to and from your destination should be easy.

That’s CDOT’s ultimate vision—to make transportation easy. When transportation is easy, there aren’t delays, crashes, injuries or fatalities on our roads.

As we work toward that vision, we also recognize that there are major challenges ahead. After years of seeing traffic fatalities decrease in Colorado, the last few years have shown a startling new trend as fatalities have increased.

Colorado’s population is booming and demographics are changing. We have many more people traveling on roads that haven’t been changed in years. Colorado’s population and vehicle miles traveled are quickly increasing, but available lane miles have remained relatively stagnant.

CDOT has a vision to improve how Coloradans travel. We’ve prepared statewide and regional transportation plans to outline what transportation can look like over the next 10 to 25 years. Ranging from highway expansions to vital bridge repairs to improving multimodal options, we’ve identified a lot of ways to improve your travel.
